It’s a spec with a ton of strengths and very few weaknesses. Brewmaster Monks also have exceptional mobility, arguably the best of any tank spec. Offensively, Brewmaster Monks play around using Keg Smash on cooldown, and because their primary skill is an AoE, their offensive ability priorities don’t change significantly between single target and AoE. Their collection of defensive cooldowns is fairly limited, but that is more than made up for by Stagger. This provides Monks with both reactive and proactive defensive tools and gives them the most complete toolkit of any tank. Monks also have Purifying Brew and Celestial Brew, allowing them to clear a portion of Staggered damage and shield themselves from damage. This gives Monks an enormous advantage at living through burst damage, and burst damage is generally what kills tanks. Unlike other tanks, Monks Stagger damage, spreading out a large portion of all damage taken as a 10-second DoT (13 seconds with talents). In the years since they were introduced in Mists of Pandaria, Brewmaster Monks have consistently been one of the top tank specs in the game, and they are usually very well-represented at the highest levels of raiding. I love Brewmaster in PvP, the kit is just so much fun, but it's absolutely unplayable since BfA released. But you don't really get to utilize it because of how squishy you are, and even if you CC people perfectly, when you don't do any damage it doesn't really matter. What they do have though, is an insane amount of CC and that's amazing. So the reality of Brewmaster in PvP right now is that they're squishier than most DPS specs, they have less self healing than a rogue and they get outDPS'd by a resto Druid with guardian affinity. You don't get hit often enough for it to proc regularly, which means you also don't get your self healing. On top of that, the passive that spawns those healing orbs straight up sucks in PvP. It's insane in PvE but it barely does a thing in PvP and I'm not sure why. Tanks take 30% more damage than DPS or healers in PvP because otherwise they're impossible to kill, and this works great for everything else but not for monks. It's absolutely dogshit in PvP since they added the damage increase against tanks in Legion or whenever that was.
